ZAKA Construction delivered the CHRYSAITHI aquaculture feed barge in early January 2024, designed for the storage and distribution of fish feed at aquaculture facilities.

The barge is 23 metres long and 10 metres wide and features 12 silos with a total capacity of 300 tonnes, as well as an additional storage capacity of 50 tonnes in the superstructure. The barge was built in the Chalkida area, Greece, for Ichthyotrofeia Kefalonias S.A.

The feed distribution system is a key part of the barge’s operation. Feed from the silos is distributed through four automatic feeding machines to 48 individual fish-farming cages, supporting efficient feeding operations at aquaculture facilities.

Focus on Safety and Efficiency

The barge was built with an emphasis on safety, durability and operational efficiency. To withstand intensive use and demanding weather conditions, the construction incorporates reinforced steel plates on the bottom, sides and deck.

The robust construction contributes to the protection of the cargo and the safety of the crew, while the barge’s layout and equipment are designed to facilitate the daily operations of personnel working at aquaculture facilities.
